Collagewords: A workshop with Donna Caffrey

What’s in a word? 

A collage mixed media play date with yourself exploring meaning with text and image. Choose a word that has meaning and bring it to life through mixed collage. Your text can be styled as you wish, mirrored, hidden, an abstract or a ransom note! In this all-level workshop you will collage or stencil your word, find your image and leave with your art based on a meaningful word chosen for reasons that are important to you.

All materials and dictionary and thesaurus provided. A selection of cut text and adult and children’s books will be available to browse through together with stencils, pens, glue sticks, scissors and a sheet of A4 or A3 paper to suit your work.

About Donna:

Donna Caffrey is an Albury based artist with a focus on collage and textiles. Bricolage best describes her work - creation from a diverse range of available materials resulting in collaged and stitched textiles and paper or a combination, in both 2D and 3D format. Play and exploration with these materials both in her studio and the company of others is an important part of her practice.

Donna had her collage work selected and exhibited in City of Wodonga Ephemeral Art projects in 2024 and will exhibit again in 2026.This year, collage work focusing on climate change has formed part of a joint exhibition with the Creative Practice Circle in Wagga Wagga and Canberra.She is planning a solo exhibition focusing on collage at Gateway Gallery, Wodonga in September 2026 and contributing textile works with Connected by A Thread - a textile collective based on the border at Kyabram Town Hall.
