WRITE ON: Writers' Showcase ft. Pauline Bailey
Butchers Brew Bar is delighted to present the latest in our series of events showcasing our favourite writers, featuring readings, discussion, author insights & Q&A. Tonight's event features Melbourne author Pauline Bailey in conversation with Ross M Fear & Special Guests Dave Tice & Sally King.
About the Author Melbourne-born visual artist & author Pauline Bailey is based in Gippsland, Victoria. She paints urban landscapes, street scenes, portraits & still life, is recognised for her depictions of Melbourne’s music venues & iconic buildings & has held a number of successful solo exhibitions.
Pauline has a passion for the blues & Australian music. Her first book 'Blues Portrait - A Profile of the Autralian Blues Scene' was released in November 2019. Volumes 2 & 3 were released simultaneously in November 2021. Volume 4, released in August 2023, is the latest in the series. Pauliine has also worked with Melb musician Kim Volkman on two books: Kim's autobiography 'The Devil Won't Take Charity' & 'For Those That Dance With the Skeleton - A Book of Short Stories'.
'Blues Portrait Vol. 4' released in is the fourth instalment in the Blues Portrait series exploring the Aust blues scene. Forty-two musicians from various backgrounds discuss their musical journeys, how they first heard the blues, & how it has influenced their own music.
Dave Tice was the lead singer for the trailblazing 70s Oz hard rock band 'Buffalo', & UK R&B/ proto-punk band 'The Count Bishops'. Back in Australia since 1984, Tice has toured with blues & rock stalwarts around the country & held long-term regular gigs at Sydney venues incl. The Bridge Hotel, The Sandringham & a monthly residency with his trio, the DT3, at Butchers Brew. He also has other ongoing projects – solo, with ex-AC/DC bassist Mark Evans & with 'Buffalo Revisited'.
Sally King was born into a musical family. She is a singer/ songwriter renowned for her dynamic live performances & amazing vocal ability. Sally has appeared as a special guest artist with many local & overseas blues acts & fronts blues band 'Repeat Offenders' as well as regular gigs with Sydney blues legends Shane Pacey & Clayton Doley in 'Pacey King & Doley'.
Ross M Fear has been the host of the weekly 'Australian Spectrum Show' for the past 14+ years. His radio show (Tues nights 9pm to midnight) celebrates the wonderful spectrum of talented independent musicians & performers we have in Australia. Always 100% local Australian artists, he plays blues & roots, folk & cool country, instrumental, jazz & surf rock, alternate & Oz rock, & new original material by Aust independent performing artists, as well as interviewing key Aust. music indutry figures.
