During April and May 2021, Southern New England Landcare and Sustainable Living Armidale coordinated three interactive pilot workshops for rural residential landholders in the Guyra & Black Mountain, Dumaresq & Invergowrie and Kelly’s Plains & Dangarsleigh areas around Armidale.

The workshops explored

  • Communities’ and personal experiences of climate risks in the light of recent drought, fire and flood
  • Potential future responses at both a property and community level and
  • Barriers to those potential responses.

Annette Kilarr, Project Officer, reflects that connection with neighbours on topics related to climate change readiness was a strong positive benefit for many of the participants.

During this final forum, to be held Thursday 20th May from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, we invite all residents in the Armidale Regional Council area who live on a rural property.

The purpose is to provide feedback to workshop participants and the wider community about the project's findings, to further connect with neighbours on topics related to climate change readiness, and to learn how we can better navigate the next fire, flood or drought.

This project is funded and supported by Armidale Regional Council who are looking forward to the preliminary outcomes and the identification of possible next steps in this process.

We look forward to your attendance and an opportunity to continue the conversation, and thank the project's participants for their contributions. Finger food and light refreshments will be provided free of charge.
