Arboretum Kite Fest - Low Sensory Kite Making Workshops

This specially designed workshop offers a supportive and inclusive environment for children who benefit from low sensory experiences.

Held in a private room inside the Visitors Centre, the space is softly lit with minimal noise and visual distractions. Each 30-minute session includes everything needed to construct and decorate a kite, including a kite kit with gentle, non-irritating fabric, multicolour plastic tails, smooth fiberglass rods, plastic handles, kite string, and kite sticky tape. Kites are decorated using non-toxic, low-allergen crayons.

Children will receive a visual schedule and a social story in the lead-up to the workshop to help them feel prepared and confident. A parent or guardian must attend the session with their child.

Once your kite is complete, fly it in the Arboretum’s amphitheatre, or for a quieter, lower sensory experience, try the nearby National Rock Garden. Take your kite home to enjoy again the next time you visit.

Workshops will go ahead rain or shine. If the weather is unsuitable for kite-flying participants will still be able to create and keep their kite to fly on another breezy day.

Times: 3 sessions between 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Duration: 30 minutes per session

Location: Check-in at the Information desk in the Visitors Centre
Ages: 5 years and older
Capacity: Maximum of 10 participants per session
