John Reeves’ Ragbags Brings Swinging, Genre-Hopping Jazz to Eudlo Hall
Acclaimed jazz accordionist John Reeves returns to the stage with his much-loved group of Ragbags, presenting an evening of exuberant, genre-defying jazz at Eudlo Hall on Saturday 9 May at 6:30pm.
Renowned for their infectious energy and adventurous musical spirit, John Reeves’ Ragbag Quintet delivers a richly textured performance drawing from New Orleans jazz, Gypsy jazz, Latin American rhythms, French musette, African influences, and timeless selections from the Great American Songbook. The result is a concert experience that is at once sophisticated, playful and deeply engaging — music that invites listeners to tap their toes, laugh freely and be swept along by spontaneous improvisation.
Fresh from recent studies in central France with esteemed accordion master Jacques Mornet at the Centre National et International Music Accordion (CNIMA), Reeves is eager to share the expressive and virtuosic possibilities of the jazz accordion. Trained initially as a classical pianist at London’s Royal College of Music, Reeves has performed internationally and at some of Australia’s most prestigious venues, including the Sydney Opera House, Hamer Hall and Bennett’s Lane.
Together, the band forms a tight yet playful ensemble, known for their joyous chemistry, dazzling musicianship and moments of unexpected musical delight. Audiences can expect swinging jazz standards, Gypsy jazz classics, original compositions and the occasional surprise, all delivered with warmth, humour and heart.
This concert promises a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere — the perfect opportunity to gather friends, enjoy a drink from the bar, and settle in for an unforgettable evening of live jazz.
✨ Before the show and during intermission, the Eudlo Hall kitchen and bar will be open, serving up a range of tasty options:
- A hearty meat dish and a flavour-packed vegan option, both gluten-free
- Homemade cakes, tea, and coffee for something sweet
- A fully stocked bar for your favourite beverage
All food is freshly prepared and served by the Eudlo Hall Committee, with proceeds going directly toward the maintenance and upkeep of our much-loved community hall — so every bite (and sip!) supports a great cause.
Come early, grab a plate, and enjoy a relaxed start to a wonderful night of music.
