The Holroyd Brass Band is delighted to host one of Australia's finest Tuba specialists, to share his expertise with Sydney's local banding community in an unmissable workshop.

Attendees are welcomed to apply to perform a short solo in the masterclass for Scott to workshop with you. Please express your interest via this form after securing your tickets.

Scott Frankcombe:

Scott Frankcombe is a tubist hailing from Sydney who has enjoyed a successful career as a player and

educator both in Australia and overseas. A former member of the NSW Police Band, the Sydney

Sinfonia, and the DePaul Screamin’ Demon’s, Scott has enjoyed performance engagements with

many of the foremost orchestras and ensembles in the region, and has experience with a multitude

of genres ranging from chamber to jazz, orchestral to pop and cabaret to street marches.

Having been fortunate to study the art of brass playing with many exceptional musicians, among

them Andrew Jarvis, Steve Rosse, Floyd Cooley, Ashley Gittens, Chris Harris, Charles Vernon and

Gene Pokorny, Scott can continue to cite an endless list of influences from his many years as a

student of music at the Queensland Conservatorium, the Canberra School Of Music, The Sydney

Conservatorium and the DePaul University School Of Music.

A passionate fan of the Philip Jones Brass and the many brass ensembles that have followed their

pioneering leadership, Scott has been an eager participant in chamber music collaborations with

many fine musicians and ensembles from the Chicago, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra Symphony

Orchestras and also the Young Australian Concert Artists program, an Australian Youth Orchestra

program specifically designed to advance the skills of Australian chamber musicians.

Scott has performed on both Eflat and Bflat bass with many Brass Bands, for both competitions and

concerts, including David King’s National Australia Brass in 2008, Wellington Brass, Central Coast

Brass, Sydney City Box Hill, Toronto Brass, Warringah Concert Brass and South Brisbane Federal. Also

having competed in many of the solo competitions over the years at both the national and state

levels, winning both the high and low tuba open categories at 2017 nationals in Tasmania.

Scott has also numerous successes as a soloist, having performed in front of the National Capital

Orchestra, the NSW Police Band, Warringah Concert Brass and Sydney Brass and over the years

many solo recitals with prominent pianists and accompanists Mitchell Leigh, David Miller and Yoko

Yamada-Selvaggio. These recitals have encompassed a range of styles and repertoire from the early

periods of music through to recent premieres of contemporary works specifically showcasing the

abilities of the modern tuba. Open to the concept of music for the masses, some of Scott’s past

performances can be found on his youtube channel, SGFTuba.

When not sharing his passion for great music with one of his many students, he spends time

expanding his knowledge of the finer things in life, such as all things diesel, Lego or garage storage.

Scott, his wife Stacey and their children Lily, Ted & Sam can regularly be found competing for couch

space against their menagerie of dog, cats and fish in the Darkinjung region of NSW, home to the

Awabakal people and the Central Coast Mariners.
