A practical, information packed and engaging workshop for all practice staff, to refresh their prioritisation skills and prepare staff in safely managing requests for care. This workshop is valuable for all members of the practice team, including GPs, practice nurses and reception staff.

Topics:

  • Review the current 5th Edition RACGP general practice standards in relation to reception and nursing responsibilities in managing requests for care. What the new requirements for accreditation, including training in triage and a system are for establishing and managing urgency.
  • Understand how to identify and manage higher-risk patients in general practice.
  • Be aware of the medico-legal issues in relation to allocation of appointments.
  • Develop prioritisation/triage skills to safely manage requests for care by phone or presentation to the practice.
  • Have an understanding of the range of prioritisation/triage tools available for general practice and their use.

Presenter: Simon Gould

Simon has worked as a professional paramedic and the Operations Manager (Triage Services) for the country’s largest and most successful after-hours GP service (GP Access After Hours) and has worked with general practices throughout NSW in the area of training in triage and emergency response. Simon is the principal developer of the ‘Triage Guide for General Practice’ a RACGP endorsed tool in use in over 1000 practices in Australia.
