Say it so it sticks: Key messages and media releases
Most for‑purpose organisations have strong stories to tell. The hard part is getting from “we know this matters” to a sentence that makes a stranger care, and then into a media release someone will actually open.
This workshop is a short, hands‑on sprint through that process. You’ll bring a real issue from your organisation and use it to build a small set of clear, usable key messages. We’ll work through a simple formula that helps you say what you mean in plain language, without losing the nuance or the evidence behind it.
From there, we’ll turn those messages into a media release. You’ll draft the opening paragraph and a strong quote and have time to refine them with light feedback. Along the way, we’ll look at common traps: jargon, long sentences that bury the news, and numbers that mean nothing to anyone outside your team.
The focus is on doing, not listening. Expect to spend most of the session writing, editing and testing language with other people who are wrestling with similar challenges.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
This interactive workshop will be conducted online via Zoom as a single 2.5 hour session.
Participants will need audio access at a minimum.
Slide handouts and simple templates will be provided after the session.
To support a collaborative and engaging learning experience, this workshop will not be recorded.
