A community meeting to discuss Dumaresq Creekland community assets including dog swimming areas and picnic tables proposed in the Draft Wetland Plan prepared by UNE.

If you enjoy walking or riding, with or without your dog, along the Dumaresq Creeklands bike track adjacent to Douglas Street, please come and have your say. At the meeting, you will:

  • Learn more about the Weedy Wasteland to Wildlife Wetland Project (WW2WW) from key stakeholders.
  • Learn about Dumaresq Creeklands’ key community assets such as dog access, shade and picnic tables
  • Hear from Dr Sarah Mika, Senior Research Fellow, Aquatic Ecology and Restoration Lab, UNE
  • Participate in a question and answer session with key stakeholders, and
  • Have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Wetland Plan.

The WW2WW Project is being led by Armidale Urban Rivercare Group to rehabilitate a highly weed-infested section of Dumaresq Creek at Kennedy Street in Armidale NSW.

The project aims to remove exotic woody weeds, install a wetland to filter the creek water, and replant riparian areas with local indigenous native plants.

The Aquatic Ecology and Restoration Research Centre at the University of New England has partnered with Armidale Urban Rivercare Group to design the wetland, which is in the Draft stage.

The Armidale Tree Group has partnered to select and grow, riparian and wetland plants.

You may wish to have a look at an excerpt from the Draft Wetland Plan outlining the key points and images before the meeting. Proposed dog swimming access points and picnic table locations, along with ‘clear lines of sight’ along the creek are included. UNE’s map (Fig. 5) of the Draft Concept Plan depicts a Wildlife Wetland aerial view and conceptual design of vegetation zones.
