Here's a blurb about this unmissable show:
With a voice described as ‘truly astonishing’ by Rolling Stone, Anna Smyrk is a powerful singer and song-maker. Her songs range from hook-laden anthems to vulnerable alt-folk ballads, all tied together by her unique voice and astute lyricism.
2024 has been a huge year for Anna, with highlights including official showcases at SXSW (Austin, Texas) and touring the US for the first time.
Anna’s recent EP was recorded in Nashville with award-winning producers Jake Finch and Collin Pastore (boygenius, Lucy Dacus). The record explores themes of fight or flight, the push and pull of relationships. She’s toured widely around Australia, the US and Europe, supporting artists like Birds of Tokyo and Bachelor Girl and performing at festivals such as Port Fairy and Woodford.
Described by Backseat Mafia UK as “a significant songwriter with an exceptional voice,” Anna Smyrk is a formidable artist on the rise.
She'll be joined at the Qirkz in the Hunter by her long-time collaborator, Alex Burkoy (Tinpan Orange).
With Special Guest Georgie Winchester
“From Wonnarua Country, Maitland NSW, singer/songwriter Georgie Winchester performs a roots-rock flavoured live show drawing from influences such as Ash Grunwald, The Waifs and Oasis.
2023 saw Georgie release her debut album, ‘Follow The Sound’ and supported the likes of Thelma Plum, Smith Street Band, Kim Churchill, The Rubens, Clare Bowditch, Steph Strings, Andy Golledge & The Whitlams.
Georgie is a 2024 recipient of the Australian Independent Records Association, Women In Music Mentorship program working with manager/artist Al Parkinson, is artist-in-residence at the Newcastle Lighthouse and showcased at the 2024 International Folk Alliance, Kansas City USA in March. Georgie recently released a single collaboration with friend Joel Leggett, another with Just A Gent and has recorded her sophomore rock and roll album last September at Dashville Studios in the Hunter Valley which will be released in 2025.
Recorded with platinum-award winning producer & engineer Garrett Kato at Ocean Shores studio in Byron Bay, Georgie's 2024 EP 'pretty things' was supported by a huge year of touring (60+ Aus shows) after winning a Create NSW grant. Georgie played alongside Maple Glider, Bob Evans, The Smith Street Band, Le Shiv as well as performed at the 2024 Gumball Festival, Cornfest, Port Kembla Festival, Rockhampton River Festival, Skyline and West Best Block Fest.
