Customised Employment Conference

The one-day conference is designed as a practice-facing forum that brings together practitioners and organisations actively delivering customised employment. Its primary purpose is to make practice visible in a disciplined and credible way, allowing participants to see how customised employment is being implemented across different service contexts, organisational structures, and labour markets.

Rather than functioning as a training event or an introductory overview, the conference prioritises implementation detail and reflective discussion. Presentations are grounded in real-world delivery and focus on service models, Discovery practices, employer engagement strategies, fidelity mechanisms, and the tools being used to support individualisation and sustainability. The emphasis is not on showcasing success alone, but on exploring how practitioners navigate constraints, adapt methods, and maintain integrity under real conditions.

The use of a call for abstracts is central to this purpose. It establishes expectations about practice authenticity and alignment with recognised competencies, while also allowing for a diversity of approaches and perspectives. The conference does not seek consensus or standardisation, but rather aims to build shared reference points that enable more informed dialogue across the field.

Importantly, the conference remains open to a broader audience, including a limited number of NDIS participants and family members who may attend at cost-recovery rates. Their participation is framed clearly as observational and learning-oriented, ensuring that practitioner-focused discussion remains intact while strengthening transparency and legitimacy.
