Gail Couper is a Surfing Hall of Fame Inductee and best known for her 10 wins at Bells and 5 Australian Titles. She arrived on the competitive scene as a school girl at the 1964 Manly World Championships, placing 4th after only having learnt to surf for a year and a half at beautiful Lorne. In addition to a teaching career, interspersed with surf competition ups and downs, surfing for fun brought joy, friendships and travel. Explore her journey through the era prior to Pro Surfing.

Pam Burridge is one of the true pioneers of women's surfing in Australia, helping pave the way for generations of female athletes who followed. Crowned World Champion in 1990, Pam's achievements and lasting impact on the sport have earned her induction into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, Huntington Beach's Surfing Walk of Fame, and Surfing Australia's Hall of Fame.

This panel brings together legendary surfers who paved the way for generations to come—those who broke boundaries, shaped culture, and redefined what was possible in the water.

Our deepest thanks to the incredible women and dedicated volunteers who bring NRMA Insurance Seas The Day to life. Your passion, energy, and commitment make everything we do possible.
