The workplace is a dynamic place with many different ideas and perspectives. This can lead to disputes. These disputes can lead to a decrease in team cohesion and productivity if they are not resolved. This can lead to a decrease in morale and negativity among coworkers. The worst outcome of workplace conflicts is the possibility of physical violence or property destruction. Workplace disputes should not be ignored. They must be dealt with carefully. This means that there should be an arbitration process that tries to understand both sides and looks at the facts in the strongest possible form. This training course aims to teach professionals how to manage in-office conflict and protect their rights if they become involved.
Although disputes are not often discussed, they do occur due to differences in our perspectives on the world, the best way for each team to work together, personal misunderstandings, and many other factors. This training session aims to help participants understand the basics and resolution of any conflict. It will also teach them how to avoid getting caught up in the crossfire, how to get out of it and what to do next. Our session will include interactive activities to help participants ask the right questions, select appropriate peer review panels, and finally, create action plans that will assist in any conflict. There are many other courses available that can be tailored to your team's specific needs. Contact us if you have any questions about how to set up a customized training session, or if you would like more information on booking in. We are here to help your team be the best.
We offer training across Australia. This includes Parramatta and Sydney as well as Adelaide and Perth.
Dispute Training Outline
Know What the Peer Review Process Means
In any civilised society, disputes are often settled through legal means or, if this isn’t available, small scale third parties who are able to look at both sides of an incident or problem from a biased standpoint. Similarly, businesses often possess a peer review process which is the option to have an unbiased peer review panel which aims to study the preconditions of the conflict, synthesizing opposing narratives and figuring out a way to resolve conflicts in the most amicable outcome possible. The ultimate aim of this is not only to address the rift between two employees, but to regain the sense of trust that they might have had before the conflict and reestablish team-wide morale. Aside from this, our trainer will also talk about other benefits of conflict resolutions both in the short and long terms.
Understand the Dynamics of Grievances
The most amazing aspect of a civilised society is its natural aversion to violence; humans understand that resorting to violence can have dire consequences on their own personal safety. In the workplace, this effect is doubled due to the fact that violence can leave a permanent mark on one’s own record both legally and within the business; in most cases leading to instant dismissal. We then must put our faith in the process of reporting grievances and problems to our superiors. When such cases happen, the management must step in to try to address the conflict in a highly unbiased manner. Therefore, since there is a desire for mutual gain and resolution on both sides, both the employees and the management must know more efficient ways of settling conflict decisively. Here, you will learn how to file grievances and how to react on office-wide conflicts as they occur.
Know the Basics of a Peer Review Panel
A peer review panel is what often helps decide a conflict when both participants are too frustrated to see each other eye to eye. As a result, an effective peer review panel must naturally inspire confidence and instill a sense of authority by looking at conflicts in the most rational manner possible. Knowing more about what makes an effective peer review panel means knowing how they are chosen from within your office’s ranks, how to act should you become a peer review panellist yourself and what responsibilities and powers you may have upon which you can assert high levels of authority. By the end of this training course, you will be equipped with the means to personally resolve conflicts within the business and, as these tips are highly useful in any context, literally anywhere conflict and issues arise.
Understand Proper Processes
Even the most frustrated of people understand that conflict resolution can be quite a long process, but even so, it is necessary to know what the processes are. Of course, filing grievances is the first step, but after filing a grievance, preliminary meetings may be conducted so as to examine the disposition of the participants, the full context they are currently in and other information which might be presented before the actual hearing. This training course will therefore also tackle the basics and importance of properly conducting meetings and actual hearings.
Ask the Right Questions
The right questions are not necessarily just those which immediately go to the heart of the matter. After all, being too direct with questions could make them unwilling to take further questions, lose confidence in your logical capabilities and ultimately increase their frustration. The questions must also not be obnoxious and must be carefully framed so to make the participants feel that you’re just the sort of person to solve a mutual problem. One goal of this training course therefore is to teach professionals how to frame their questions and defuse whatever frustrations the participants might have so they can participate in questioning.
Know What Not to Do as Facilitators/Peer Review Panellists
Conflict resolution is always an urgent matter as it decides how well teams can go along and the strength of their attachment to the company. Handled improperly, conflict resolution processes can become very cumbersome and time-consuming for both sides, resulting in serious escalation and a complete loss of morale. As such, conflicts must be handled decisively and efficiently. This training course will therefore discuss some of the possible pitfalls of any peer review panel and how to avoid them, ensuring harmony and efficient conflict resolutions within the office.
