Join us for our annual celebration of the art of bonsai at Bonsai Reshaped 2024! This year we welcome internationally recognised artists Marija Hajdic from Croatia and Morten Albek from Denmark, to share their expertise, influences, experiences and enthusiasm through workshops and live demonstrations. Both professional artists carry the legacy of the bonsai masters into the future whilst developing and exploring the boundaries of the artform.

Do you want to take your bonsai to the next level? Deepen your knowledge and skills of the art of bonsai and receive personalised advice from our visiting international guest artist Morten and the Curators of the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia.

Introducing Morten Albek - a bonsai expert with 30 years of experience and widely recognised for his work with Shohin bonsai (Shohin meaning 'a small thing').

A tree is considered a Shohin bonsai when 20cm or smaller. While the stature of Shohin is small, Morten's work and influence is grand and far reaching.

Morten has spread his knowledge far and wide, teaching students online via the Shohin Bonsai Online School since 2003, and has conducted live demonstrations and workshops all over the world.

Class size limited to 8 people, so be quick to secure your spot for this popular workshop.

WHAT TO BRING

  • You will need to bring up to two suitable trees, we recommend trees that have anatomical features to work on with sufficient branches for styling.
  • Having two trees will allow the facilitator to have a choice if one is not suitable. A suitable tree would have 3 hours of work in it.
  • Please bring your own tools and wire.
  • Bring a turntable if you have one handy and small wooden chocks to change the angle of your tree (a small number of both will be available to use if you do not have any).

Free parking is available at the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion.

Bonsai Reshaped is held at the National Arboretum Canberra, home to the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia (NBPCA) and is made possible by the assistance of the Bonsai Trust Fund.

Details of any Bonsai Reshaped event may be changed without prior notice. Artists may be added, withdrawn or substituted for workshops and events. Wherever possible, the National Arboretum Canberra will advise consumers of event changes prior to the commencement of the workshop/event, or at the event where prior notice is not possible.
