Gwyn Ashton (UK/ SA) 

Inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to sharing original Australian music with the world, Ashton's show is retro with a modern evolution as he crosses the boundaries between indie rock & the blues, mixing his electric set with acoustic lap side & steel-bodied resonator guitars along the way.

Gwyn Ashton has been hauling his beaten up 1930s National steel guitar around the world for more than 20 years.  Influences of his acoustic-based singer/ songwriter 'Roots, Blues & Beyond' show are drawn from Mississippi Delta blues, ballads & eastern music.

Now largely UK-based, Ashton is equally at home playing a Hawaiian Weissenborn hollow neck lap slide, resonator & 12-string guitars as he is playing a loud rock & roll set.

Ashton takes us on an eclectic mesmerising musical journey of his own original material plus some choice covers; from acoustic roots, blues & world music to a set of electric hard-edged rockin’ blues, 60s-style fuzz garage rock & Brit-voiced psychedelia on an array of instruments, including his custom-made Italian Liutart signature model guitar.

With no backing tracks or setlist Ashton spontaneously draws his set mostly from his eight studio albums.

His lyrical songwriting & musical dexterity on resonator & lap slide guitars mixed with frenetic electric slide, heavy bass lines, hardcore kick drum beats & lo-fi microphone vocals makes him one of the most unique contemporary artists on the scene today.
