Respectfully inspired by traditional trade by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, join the National Arboretum Canberra’s Indigenous Education Officer, a proud Wiradjuri woman, in a NAIDOC Week activity.
Each participant will receive a paper bag filled with a mix of natural elements, ranging from possum skin pelt, emu feathers, native seeds and wool along with a wide variety of other materials. Each bag will be different, and you will be able to engage with one another to trade items.
While trading and creating, you can learn about culture when using these materials. You’re able to make anything you’d like – whether it be an adornment, piece of jewellery or a gift for someone.
*Gibanybirra, Wiradjuri word for trade
