Hear from Suzy Miller - CEO, The Opportunity Collective

Suzy Miller is a champion for Regional women and youth from diverse backgrounds, working to empower them to become the next generation of leaders. Throughout her career, Suzy has been passionate about taking her skills and translating them into programs and presentations that lift the aspiration and performance of underrepresented groups.

Suzy worked for the NAB for 21 years, as a senior manager leading teams of up to 250 staff. Suzy left in 2011, to established Leadership Within, an Executive Coaching and Leadership Development business, where she continues to work with leaders worldwide to build leadership capabilities.

Motivated by a desire to use her expertise for the community’s benefit, Suzy began volunteering and shortly after, was running Youth Leadership Programs. Over 6 years, Suzy’s leadership saw over 400 Central Coast/Hunter young people connect to their community, build their aspirations, goals and develop leadership skills.

Suzy’s passion to support women to reach their leadership potential and improve diversity, led her to establish the Not-for-Profit, The Opportunity Collective in 2016. She is passionate about improving the economic development for women in Regional Australia and giving them access to quality professional development. After successfully piloting their Women’s Leadership Program on the Central Coast in 2017, they have expanded into Newcastle and launch the 6th program in Maitland.

Some of the outcomes and growth experienced by our total program Participants to date are:

  • • Confidence and ability to Network - increased by 92%
  • • Ability to Manage Priorities - increased by 73%
  • • Ability to Self-Promote - increased by 68%
  • • Self Confidence - increased by 54%
  • • Career Management increased by 63%

Mentors also benefited and reported an uplift in all focus areas, as a result of their Executive Coaching sessions and from attending the group workshops.

For two consecutive years, The Opportunity Collective have been a Local and Regional Winner and went on to being State Finalists in the NSW Business Chamber "Start Up Superstar" Category in 2018 and the Social Enterprise Category in 2019.

Suzy was the recipient of a 2016 Gosford City Council Australia Day Outstanding Achievement Award, recognising her contribution in developing leadership in youth and women. In 2018, Suzy was a Top 4 Finalist in the NSW Business Woman of the Year awards. In 2019, Suzy was included in the Australian Financial Review/Qantas “100 Women of Influence”. This recognises contributions made to Australian society and the commitment to increasing the visibility of women’s leadership in Australia.
