Join our professional development day with Carla Cherrie, HSC dance examiner. Come and unpack composition in the curriculum and learn how to lead your students to higher attainment.
Suitable for HSC Dance Teachers, or years 7-10 teachers looking for further professional development.
IN THIS WORKSHOP WE EXPLORE:
Morning Session: Developing students understanding; working with stimulus and creating motifs with intent through abstraction.
Middle Session: Creating meaningful phrases; developing and advancing compositional skills in your students.
Afternoon Session: Breaking down the interview process; preparing students to talk about their own works.
This session is for teachers with a range of fitness levels. All you need to bring are clothes to dance in, curiosity and enthusiasm.

FACILITATOR CARLA CHERRIE
Carla Cherrie graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) Bachelor of Education in 2006 and is currently coordinating the Dance department at Kirrawee High School. Her passion and knowledge of the art form have led her to be employed by NESA as an Examiner for the High School Certificate Practical Examinations, and the skills that she has acquired from this experience has furthered her own teaching practices and expertise in the subject. She has successfully choreographed numerous works for both the Regional Dance Festival and State Dance Festival and has been involved with the NSW Arts Unit teaching HSC workshops to prospective students throughout the state.
THIS COURSE HAS NOW BEEN GIVEN INTERIM NESA ACCREDITATION.
Completing this course under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of "delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum" addressing standard descriptors 2.1.2 and 6.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
