20 piece Jazz Big Band with singer Lisa Abbott!
Formed in 2001 by enigmatic ARIA award-winning trumpeter, and fondly remembered ‘Dr of Jazz’ Vlad Khusid, Dr V’s Swing Thing is a 20-piece Jazz Big Band now lead - since 2023 - by acclaimed
saxophonist, Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Lecturer and Australian Big Band luminary David Theak. Comprising jazz alumni from Sydney Grammar School, Dr V's has performed at jazz festivals all over Australia from Darwin to Wangaratta, from Manly Jazz to Orange in regional NSW, as well as City Recital Hall's Lunchtime series and a slew of private events.

Dedicated to performing the breadth of the jazz canon including the classics from the swing era to music by leading contemporary jazz composers, Dr V's Swing Thing delivers a tightness and enthusiasm for the genre rarely seen in Australian big bands, informed by a passion and commitment to challenging its members with exciting, dynamic and appealing music.

Joining the band again tonight is captivating Sydney singer and songwriter, Lisa Abbott, bringing her soulful voice to some swinging jazz standards, for a night not to be missed.
