PETER HEAD + FRIENDS: 'RANDYMAN' CELEBRATING THE LIFE & MUSIC OF RANDY NEWMAN

With songs that run the gamut from heartbreaking to satirical & a host of unforgettable film scores, RANDY  NEWMAN has used his many talents to create musical masterpieces loved & appreciated by generations of audiences around the world.

After starting his songwriting career as a teenager, Newman launched into recording as a singer & pianist in 1968 with his self-titled album Randy Newman.  Throughout the '70s, 80s & 90s he released acclaimed albums such as: 12 Songs, Sail Away, Good Old Boys, Little Criminals, Born Again, Trouble in Paradise, Land of Dreams & Bad Love.

In addition to his solo recordings & regular international touring, Newman began composing & scoring for films in the '80s. Movies he has worked on include The Natural, Awakenings, Ragtime, all four Toy Story pictures, Monsters Inc. Monsters University, Seabiscuit, James & the Giant Peach, A Bug’s Life & Meyerowitz Stories.

NPR calls Newman a “national treasure”, saying that he “remains first & foremost a craftsman of song, capable of telling ordinary stories in ways no one quite has before,” while the Chicago Tribune said, “Newman is one of the best songwriters of the last half-century … a master of orchestrating mood & playing a range of flawed characters, depicted in mini aural movies compressed into three verses & three minutes.”

Randy Newman’s many honours include 7 Grammys, 3 Emmys & 2 Academy Awards, as well as a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 & the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 - the same year he was given an Ivor Novello PRS for Music Special International Award.  He was presented with a PEN New England Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Award in 2014.

PETER HEAD is as renowned for his sensational piano playing as he is for the Who's Who of Australian & international musicians that he's worked alongside, including John Farnham, Bon Scott, Chris Bailey, Robyn Archer & countless others, as well as supporting top tier international acts such as the Bee Gees, Elton John, John Mayall & The Rolling Stones.  His incredible life story is covered in MJ Cornwall's recently-released book 'Headonism', now available in selected book stores & online.

A remarkable & versatile songwriter, soulful singer & pianist extraordinaire, Peter can be seen & heard all over Sydney playing jazz standards, country, funk, blues or his own compelling originals, alone or with a band.

Tonight, he has assembled an assortment of friends & family to celebrate the outstanding music & career of one of his best-loved & respected musical influences.
