A shimmering blend of fairy tale and fantasy, The Christmas Star transports audiences between the human world and the celestial realm. In a quiet mountain village, the humble schoolteacher Václav secretly watches Princess Amálka glide across a frozen lake each evening, unable to confess—even to himself—that he loves her. High above, turmoil stirs among the stars: the gentle Denička, fiancée of the radiant Sirius, is struck from the heavens by the jealous Proxima and plummets to Earth, landing directly in Václav’s cottage.

Stars fade when far from the sky, and only pure, selfless love can restore their light. Realizing Václav’s heart belongs to the princess, Denička resolves to help the two unite, hoping in turn to save herself. But Proxima descends with her own schemes, determined to claim Sirius’s brilliance for herself, no matter the cost.

Shot in the breathtaking winter landscapes of the Tatra Mountains and historic Czech chateaus, director Karel Janák’s enchanting film intertwines romance, magic, and humor. The Christmas Star offers a fresh celestial twist on classic fairy-tale themes, celebrating the quiet courage of love—human and cosmic alike.
