"While Jaga Band falls under the category of “World Music” in Australia, really they are ultimately the quintessential Australian band. Led by a gifted ex-pat Ukrainian musician, and featuring local and multicultural talent - they are the musical embodiment of the Australian melting pot.” (Yaron Hallis, leader of Triple ARIA-winning ensemble Monsieur Camembert)

“This isn’t just another Ukrainian folkloric performance group. This is the real deal, an amazing, truly virtuosic Ukrainian ensemble, with an exciting mix of historic and contemporary tunes and songs from all corners of the Ukraine. Wild, mournful, and deeply enjoyable.” (Michael Fine, President, Troubadour Central Coast, Folk and Acoustic Music Club)

“The concert experience offered by “Ukrainian Strings” is not only entertaining but also deeply uplifting, leaving audiences with a profound sense of emotional resonance long after the final note has been played.” (Tetiana Koldunenko, Editor of The FreeThought / Вільна Думка Ukrainian community newspaper in Australia and reporter at Radio SBS Ukrainian)

Jaga Band has entertained audiences for a decade with their distinctive celebration of traditional songs and dances inspired from across the Carpathian region, rich and diverse in influences from Ukraine, Hungary, Moldova and Romania.

Since the very first days of full-scale war in Ukraine, Mar’yana Sywak and Jaga Band have been tirelessly fundraising money for the Ukrainian people, raising awareness of Australian society about that brutal war, joining forces with many international musicians to stand for Ukraine and help people in need of urgent assistance.

Multicultural members of Jaga Band include high-calibre performers from various European countries - Mar’yana Sywak (Ukraine), Lucy Voronov (Belarus), Jacinta Mikus (Lithuania), Tatjana Marx (Serbia), Alex Parkmen (Ukraine) and Dimitri Kanikevich (Ukraine).

On the night these incredibly talented musicians will take you on a musical journey to the land of Cossacks of the past and heroes of the present. They will touch your hearts with emotional songs about heroism and bravery, loss and despair, but most importantly, about love, hope, light and celebration of life. Jaga Band always inspires their audience to sing along and dance!
