A fun workshop to learn the basic coiling weave technique as taught by Barbara’s Elders. It is intended that each participant will go home with a small bowl. Participants will also take home instructions and any fibre left over in their kits so they can continue to use the learnt skills. This workshop is great for beginners but advanced weavers wanting to go back to basics are more than welcome.
Participants will need to bring their own large eye needle and a pair of scissors. Barbara will supply fibre and instructions.
Barbara Walker is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga, NSW, who is practising traditional coiling weaving and teaching also. Being able to share weaving techniques, for many different applications, with all who are wanting to learn, brings her satisfaction. She has just completed Certificate 3 in Wiradjuri Language to be able to promote the use of traditional language; and incorporates language in weaving, to help people connect to culture. Barb incorporates as much natural fibre and items into her weave as possible.
Barbara has always had an interest in many art forms. She has been an avid sewer of clothing, quilts, patchwork, bags, and purses. She has always been practicing knitting, crochet, and various styles of embroidery. Barb has also done papercrafts of scrapbooking, card making and Floral punch craft.
