Dom Turner & Ian Collard
“Turner & Collard show here why they’re at the forefront of blues in the modern age, re-crafting these [traditional blues] songs with a passion that will never die”, Sydney Morning Herald
Dom Turner (Backsliders) & Ian Collard (Collard Greens & Gravy)
Multi award winning Australian blues artist, Dom Turner is best known as guitarist, lead vocalist & founding member of the iconic Australian blues group, Backsliders.
Aria award-winning harmonica virtuoso Ian Collard hails from legendary blues acts, Collard Greens & Gravy, The Three Kings & is also part time member of Backsliders.
Working as a Guitar/ Harmonica duo, Dom Turner & Ian Collard strip the music back to its rural beginnings. At the heart of their sound is the north Mississippi hill-country music of Mississippi Fred McDowell & Johnny Woods, mixed in with the pre-war blues sounds of artists such as Skip James, Blind Willie McTell & Lead Belly.
Take your mind back to a time before mindless 120 beats per minute pop dominated the airwaves — to the early 20th century when the raw sounds of harmonicas and guitars meant real music for the people. This is a deep, dark & tantalizingly evil mix of rural blues, played & recorded by musicians throughout the southern states of the USA & broadcast over the radio waves even further.
Meanwhile, quite a few years later, & even further down south, in Australia, Dom Turner & Ian Collard became obsessed with the sound & spent most of their adult lives studying & playing it.
Dom Turner: 6 and 12 string guitars & vocals
Ian Collard: Harmonica & vocals
