Every Sunday, members of the local Worimi Mob meet on Country at Onebygamba (Carrington Creek Parklands) to learn, celebrate, and explore culture.
The Worimi mob are teaming up with renowned theatre company Curious Legends for a special edition on 9 May.
Aunty Debbie says, "We are pelicans, and celebrate ‘Black’ & ‘White’ alike. Be part of our story – that of the longest, continual culture in Onebygamba - we would love you to join us!"
Traditional activities will take place from 1pm, with performances from 4pm.
A spiritual smoking cleanse which consists of burning traditional eucalyptus leaves.
The Bloodline Sista Girls and Brother Boys will dance important traditional dances such as The Welcome Dance, The Spirit Dance, The Pelican Dance, and the Sting Ray Dance.
The elders will tell their stories of connecting to the country and the history of our bloodline to our traditional practises.
Introduction of families to various cultural elements each time, such as hand made clap sticks, a show of ancestral weapons or examples of bush medicine. Maybe land-crabbing, fishing, or making crab pots. Fishing and catching crabs along Throsby Creek are important aspects of Worimi culture and have been a traditional practice for thousands of years.
