Join us for this (slightly delayed) WORLD OCEANS DAY family fun community event and learn how we can all be part of saving our Southern Seas. It will be a wonderful night of film, food, friends and fundraising for Treading Lightly Inc and Surfrider Yuin.

We will be screening two wonderful short films, including Surfriders 'Southern Blast' and Patagonia's 'KIN'. We will also be serving supper by NOMAH and hearing from some awesome panelists from Surfrider Yuin, ORRCA & TL Inc.. About the film - Southern Blast is a beautiful cinematic celebration of the wild landscapes, abundant marine ecosystems, and local communities that call the Southern Ocean coastlines home. Featuring footage shot on location in lutruwita (Tasmania), the film connects with local personalities–from surfers to crayfishers, sustainable ocean businesses, and Traditional Custodians–it covers the unique and diverse communities that coexist alongside marine life and wild natural landscapes.

Southern Blast is a powerful look into the relatively untouched charm of lutruwita and the threat posed by a looming fossil fuel industry. It wouldn't be a Surfrider film without some magical waveriding moments, featuring sessions with Torren Martyn, Annie Ford, Kyron Rathbone, Zoey Grey and other ocean-loving characters. Engaging as it is beautiful, Southern Blast has captured the wildness of the Southern Ocean and those who share a deep and integral connection with it. The film uplifts and inspires, leaving audiences with a message: this area is worth protecting, and we all have a role to play in helping to protect it from oil and gas exploration.

KIN is a story of the ocean, love and connection. It’s about the world we’ve inherited, the choices we can make, and what it looks like when we get things right. Directed by Lauren L. Hill and Andrew Buckley “All of life – each breath, every sip – is an inheritance from those who came before.” Like many Australian families, the ocean is where Lauren L. Hill and Dave Rastovich’s family connect – through surf and play. Just a few generations ago, the ocean was considered too big to fail. Now with so many threats, the ocean seems too big to fix. In search of solutions, Lauren and her family travel to Lord Howe Island Marine Park, one of Australia's most protected marine sanctuaries.
