He’s opening for Jimmy Barnes on his upcoming national tour and hit #1 on the ARIA Country Albums Chart with his debut record Troubadour. Yet, Taylor Sheridan’s music remains grounded in authentic storytelling. His new single, ‘Stories’, is an ode to the massive road travelled so far and the adventure to come.
Earthy acoustic tones, soaring contemporary melodies and sincere storytelling – the autobiographical, ‘Stories’, blurs the line between past and present, in both music and lyrics. For Taylor, the song marks a milestone in his career. “When I found out I was going to be touring nationally with Jimmy Barnes, I knew I wanted a song to really capture this incredible moment in time.”
Drawing heavily from his own upbringing, the new single is a shout out to the moments that define us. “Stories is about the experiences in our lives that shape who we are. From a pivotal moment in my high school days to now becoming a new father, Stories represents the essence of what I believe life is all about.”
The song’s unique sound comes courtesy of Melbourne powerhouse producer duo, MSquared (Taylor Moss, James Johnston) whilst the music video was shot by rising filmmaker, Jake Davey. “We spent three days filming all the visuals for Stories and found some beautiful spots that really captured the essence of what this song is about.
Born and raised in the quiet folds of Kyneton, on his family’s farm, Taylor matches the song’s visuals to his love for his birthplace. “It’s where I feel most comfortable, so I wanted to represent that. Throughout this clip are photos from my childhood and stages throughout my life.”
That hometown is where he got his start. Nestled in regional Victoria, it was the kind of place where everyone knew your name. His parents worked honest jobs - his dad on the farm, his mum at the local paper. There was no jukebox at home, no lineage of performers to follow - music wasn’t in his blood, but somehow, it was already in his bones.
As a kid, he couldn’t sit still in class without drumming on the desk or breaking into song. “Music is just innately who I am,” shares the singer-songwriter. “It helped me find my identity.”
By fifteen, he’d picked up a guitar and found a deep calling in songwriting. The local pub crowd doubled as his biggest cheer squad. “The whole town would turn up to support me,” he recalls. “I think that’s what gave me the belief that I could pursue music as a career.”
Fast forward and Taylor has supported artists like Pete Murray, Vanessa Amorosi, and Daryl Braithwaite, toured nationally on the lineup for the Red Hot Summer Tour and One Electric Day, shared stages with international icons Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight, and spent five years on the road as a full-time member of ARIA Award winning rock band Taxiride. He already joined Jimmy Barnes on tour in 2024 and is set to do it again in June. To top it all off, he’s just become a first-time dad.
Taylor is also an ambassador for the Life Changer Foundation, supporting youth mental health - something that echoes the openness he brings to his art.
With ‘Stories’, Taylor Sheridan takes stock of life, about to dive headfirst into a new chapter: a new single, another run with Jimmy Barnes, and his first go at fatherhood. “I wanted a song that reflects where I’m at right now. These are the moments that will make one hell of a story someday.”
