The WIRED Lab

The W I R E D Lab consolidates and expands upon
the 30 years of research by Dr Alan Lamb into an instrument and device
he calls The Wires. Lamb is an artist, biomedical research scientist
and General Practitioner and his investigations of The Wires have their
foundations in site-specific installation, experimental audio and sound
composition. Lamb’s long-term engagement with The Wires has expanded
into areas that are both relative to and beyond these sonic
foundations. Through collaborative and interdisciplinary processes The
W I R E D Lab aims to further develop and experiment with The Wires by
utilising them as an instrument, device and apparatus.
The W I R E D Lab is an interdisciplinary project, where the
installation of a set of wires in Eastern Australia will provide a
permanent research site and resource for artists, musicians, medical
and science practitioners to further expand upon Lamb’s sonic
investigations, and experiment with The Wires’ capacities in visual,
computational science and medical realms.
Now in his 60’s, Lamb’s work with The Wires is internationally
renowned. The W I R E D Lab will provide the opportunity for a senior
Australian artist to pass on his skills and knowledge to other
significant experimental Australian artists and scientists. A primary
aim of The W I R E D Lab is to realise The Wires immense potential as a
research tool in a range of inter-disciplinary practices. The
establishment of the W I R E D Lab will also ensure the longevity of
The Wires, a unique Australian invention, as a source of research and
investigation for generations of artists, scientists and audiences.
