Listen to The Button Collective’s latest album release 'Make a Dead Man Sing' and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d slipped through the fabric into Australia’s colonial heyday. The album, recorded live on tape in front of a few small audiences, combines classic tales of Australia’s onerous past with personal stories from songwriter Brodie Buttons.

The Button Collective bring back to life an essence of Australia that has been largely drowned out by the hum of progress and development in this parched country. Brodie Buttons brings with his songwriting an air of wisdom well beyond his years. With an earnest yet jovial presence, he shares an intimacy and perspective that engages both young and old, and leaves audiences with that timeless kind of yearning for the simplicity of yesteryear.

As well as original folk songs, the five piece band perform their own fiery versions of traditional Irish, Australian, and old time American tunes passed down through generations. The performances range from heartfelt finger-picking to full-blown high energy party-folk perfect for a hoedown. In fact, their live performance is rumoured to actually Make a Dead Man Sing.
