"Bound for Glory" is the latest release from Queensland jazz singer, Robyn Brown. "Bound for Glory:  the Gospel Project" brings to life songs born out of slavery and racism.  From negro spirituals to songs from Blind Willie Johnson, Sam Cooke and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, this project explores some of the gospel themes in early blues and jazz, songs of suffering and longing and songs of joy.

Although this album is an interesting selection of refreshing new versions of gospel classics and more obscure gems, it is more than that.  Born from Robyn's personal interest in the history of early blues and jazz, this project also shares the stories behind the songs and the booklet enclosed in the CD is an interesting read, giving insight into how the spirituals came to be, how they were used and how they evolved.

Some of Queensland's finest jazz musicians, David Spicer (piano), Peter Walters (double-bass), Max Sportelli (drums) and Rob McWilliams (trumpet/flugelhorn), worked with Robyn on this project, bringing a modern jazz approach to songs from the 1800s to the early 1900s.  With brilliant musicianship and stunning arrangements, this album is a delight to listen to.

Recorded during 2020/2021 this project was a challenge to complete, being delayed by multiple lockdowns etc, but is finally here.    The CD and download cards can be purchased at the album launch or on Bandcamp.
