🌟 WIBAS Breakfast – Celebrating Women in Construction

Join us for an inspiring morning at the upcoming WIBAS Breakfast, where we proudly celebrate the achievements of women shaping the construction industry. This special event features a powerful panel discussion with three outstanding past recipients of the Women in Building Award, as they share their career journeys, success stories, and the challenges they’ve overcome.

Through open and honest conversations, our panellists will reflect on the defining moments of their careers—from breakthrough opportunities and proud milestones to real-world obstacles and what it’s taken to lead and thrive in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Importantly, the discussion will also explore what is currently being done across the construction industry to retain and grow female participation—from mentorship and leadership programs, to flexible career pathways, inclusive culture initiatives, and advocacy from within the workforce itself.

🎤 Meet Our Panel of Industry Trailblazers:

🔹 Ashley Barnes – Design Manager, Richard Crookes Constructions
Winner of the 2024 Newcastle Master Builders Award for Women in Building and the 2023 NAWIC Regional Woman of the Year, Ashley brings a unique perspective shaped by her diverse background in architecture, design management, and contracts administration. She has delivered complex projects across commercial, education, health, and aged care sectors. As Co-Chair of the newly established Regional NAWIC Committee, Ashley is actively involved in improving access and visibility for women in construction, particularly in regional areas. She’ll share personal insights into breaking barriers, as well as the importance of industry-driven change.

🔹 Clare Hitchenor – Project Manager, Grindley Construction
Clare began her construction journey as a cadet while studying at the University of Newcastle. Over 20 years, she has risen through the ranks to manage high-profile projects such as the Wilkinson House redevelopment for SCEGGS Darlinghurst and the Blacktown Disability Sports Centre of Excellence. Clare offers a grounded and experienced perspective on what it means to build a long-term career, the importance of supportive teams, and what more can be done to attract and retain talented women in construction.

🔹 Katherine Bugelli – Senior Contracts Administrator, Growthbuilt
With over seven years in the construction industry, Katherine is a skilled and respected contracts administrator, known for her ability to manage complex builds through contract negotiation, financial control, and project coordination. Katherine is also a passionate mentor and diversity advocate, actively working to support and uplift the next generation of women in construction. She will discuss not only her personal journey, but the industry’s responsibility to foster inclusive workplaces and ensure women are supported throughout all stages of their careers.

🎙 Moderated by: Julie Rich
