Louise Denson Group, led by Sunnie and Q-Song Award winning pianist/composer Louise Denson, is thrilled to announce the release of their new CD Nova Nova. The 9-song recording powered by the LDG trio – Helen Russell (bass) and Paul Hudson (drums), features celebrated tenor saxophonist James Sandon and Lachlan McKenzie on trumpet/flugelhorn.

Louise Denson is a pianist, composer, arranger and educator.  Though she is well-respected for being a Senior Lecturer in Jazz Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, she is equally respected for her creative output, composing and recording music which emphasises melody and rich, contemporary harmony.   She has performed with her band, the Louise Denson Group at jazz festivals all over the world, including the prestigious Montreal International Jazz Festival. Winning awards for several of her jazz compositions, she has issued 6 CDs previously, with Nova Nova now her 7th.

The compositions on the new CD, Nova Nova, range from punchy two-horn tracks reminiscent of the classic Blue Note era to beautiful and wistful trio arrangements. The title track is a moody and contemplative meditation on the vastness of the universe, one of three numbers with a Brazilian flavor. Samba Lucia is a lively vehicle for Sandon’s inspired and inspiring improvisation, while McKenzie delivers a loving interpretation of the jazz waltz Wooden Shoes.

Denson’s well-crafted melodies and rich jazz harmony, along with compelling, exciting solos, make for satisfying listening in this intensely original and musical offering!

Join us for the celebration at Glass House Brewery on Sunday 18th April!
