Join us as we bask in Judith Wright’s timeless verse across two sets of special musical reimaginings.
Local powerhouse Black Square String Quartet will perform brand new works by acclaimed composer, Robert Davidson, followed by a suite of song adaptations by Nausicaä and his 7-piece band.
The Burning Glass is Nausicaä’s upcoming collection of songs based on the poetry of Judith Wright. Throughout November, he’s sharing these new works in places dear to Judith’s heart: the New England Tablelands, Braidwood, Brisbane, and Mount Tamborine.
Nausicaä
Recalling the warmth and intimacy of Paul Simon and Nick Drake, Nausicaä sets the captivating poems of Judith Wright into musical motion. Nausicaä has performed alongside the likes of Tiny Ruins, Angie Hart (Frente) and Ben Salter and premiered works at Dark Mofo, the Woodford Folk Festival, and the Queensland Poetry Festival. The brainchild of Simon Munro, Nausicaä grew out of his work as an arts producer with poetry/music project Borrowed Verse.
Black Square String Quartet
The quartet aims to challenge and inspire audiences with daring & innovative repertoire choices. Strong advocates of new & Australian music, the quartet has premiered works by composers including Thomas Green, Robert Davidson, Ken Thomson, Cathy Likhuta, Marike Van Dijk, Brenda Gifford, Richard Grantham, Michael Bakrncev and Philip Eames. Their collaborations with some of Australia's finest musicians and ensembles - including Trichotomy, Shugorei, Tenzin Choegyal, Early Modern, Andrew Veivers, and Steve Newcomb - push the boundaries of contemporary chamber music.
