The final concert of the 2016 series showcases the immense contrast in music written in different parts of the world in the 1960's. Georgian composer Taktakishvili's Sonata for Flute and Piano combines charm and militaristic influences with gut-wrenching expression. Two very different sides of American music in the '60s are shown, with the avant-garde of Wuorinen pitted against the more romantic sounds of Rorem. The conversational Cello Sonata from British composer Britten and gritty Divertimento No. 2 from French-Hungarian composer Arma provide a rhythmic end to the series.

Programme:

Sonata for Flute and Piano, Otar TAKTAKISHVILI

Trio No. 2, Charles WUORINEN

Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano, Ned ROREM

Cello Sonata Op. 65, Benjamin BRITTEN

Divertimento No. 2, Paul ARMA
