ACT FOR KIDS
Act for Kids is an Australian charity providing free services to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect. Established in 1988, they have helped thousands of children affected by abuse and neglect. They deliver of a range of services to help children, families and carers.
Act for Kids services include intensive therapy, sexual abuse counselling, help for families at risk, teen mentoring, a specialist preschool, safe houses in remote indigenous communities and protective behaviours programs. Whilst they receive some government funding, they rely heavily on donations, fundraising and community support to provide free treatment for children and families.
Our aim is to raise awareness for Act for Kids and receive donations that will assist in funding programs to help abused children live normal and happy lives.
Here in Western Australia we have the ‘Learn to be Safe with Emmy & Friends’ program. This is a protective behaviours program which is generally taught in schools to grade one children through weekly workshops over five to six weeks to ensure kids understand and retain what they learn. It is activity based, fun and interactive helping to empower and protect children by enhancing their knowledge and skills to identify and articulate their feelings, understand the difference between safe and unsafe secrets, identify early warning signs to alert them of when they are in danger, identify public and private body parts and identify trusted adults and what they can do when they feel unsafe.
In April 2019 Sue and Michael WRIGHT along with Sue and Ron CLARKE will be joining the Act for Kids KOKODA Trek to raise funds and awareness for this fantastic cause. All proceeds go directly to the charity. Thanks for supporting us, it is great appreciated.
