Botanicals by Design
Hi my name is Kim Bagot-Hiller and I am a Botanical Artist/ printmaker based in Bathurst regional NSW. I am a trained Environmental Scientist and my practice is influenced by my knowledge of botany and plant structure.
In 2005 I was introduced to botanical and scientific illustration focusing on traditional mediums of graphite, pen and ink. These mediums complement the scientific and structural detail in my work. Between 2011 - 2013 my practice began to develop through exhibiting and exploration of mediums and techniques influenced by my scientific knowledge.
I enrolled in 2014 in the Diploma of visual arts where I was introduced to the techniques of printmaking. Finding that printmaking techniques complemented my scientific interpretation of plants, there was a shift in mediums and techniques from illustrative drawing to printmaking in particular linocut, etching and dry point.
With an investigation into Australian Native flora in 2016 and an Artist in Residency commenced at the Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum, resulting in the "Point of Difference" exhibition which was held at the National Botanic Garden, Canberra ACT in April 2017. To aid in the production and presentation of works for this exhibition I was awarded a NAVA first round NSW Artist grant.
