What's it all about?.....

On Saturday 26th June, I will be hosting my third annual Red Nose Day fundraising event.   This year I’m holding a black tie Charity Ball in conjunction with CLUB red.   CLUB red is based on the principles of a 100 Club - where 100 tickets are sold for $100 each, and all tickets go in the major prize draw for a 1 in 100 chance of winning $5000 cash!!

Why I got involved...
On 31 January 2007 my son Mitchell was “born sleeping” (stillborn) at 39 weeks.   Darren and I arrived at the hospital excited to be welcoming a new little addition to our family, only to hear those devastating words “I’m so sorry, there’s no heartbeat”.

Mitchell’s cause of death was never determined.

Our story is just one in thousands of stories that are told every year.   Every story is slightly different, and yet they all have the same ending.....empty arms and broken hearts.

There is no doubt that the death of any child is heartbreaking, but when there is no explanation for what went wrong it is even harder to handle.   I refuse to accept that a baby or child can die with no reasonable explanation.   This is why I became a member of SIDs and Kids and why I am now involved with Red Nose Day fundraising.

I believe with further research into the causes and prevention of perinatal and infant death, in years to come the stillbirth rate can be radically reduced and other families will be saved the heartache that we, and so many other families, have endured.   Currently the stillbirth rate has not decreased at all in 20 years. Yet, with the introduction of the safe sleeping program, the SIDS rate has been reduced by 90%.

But.....I am just little feet taking big steps and I need your help.

My Aim!
In these current economic times, I have not set a $ target.   My aim is to simply raise as much funds as possible to enable SIDS and Kids to continue to fund research into perinatal and infant death, and educate the community so that avoidable deaths can be prevented.   Look at the difference the safe sleeping campaign made to the SIDS rate!

Where will the proceeds go?
100% of all funds raised will go directly to SIDS and Kids NSW.   SIDS and Kids are dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children and to supporting bereaved families.  Their ultimate goal is to reduce the incidence of stillbirth and SIDS in Australia.

While I’m passionate about promoting awareness of SIDS and Kids, Red Nose Day is also about having fun for a serious cause.   I hope to make this Ball a memorable one and a not-to-be missed annual event.

Please help support SIDS and Kids to continue to save babies' lives.
