Collective Connection

It was November 2016 and we were leaving the Marriott, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast after a two-day Mortgage Broking Industry Conference. The three of us had lots to talk about and reflect on during the pending two and half hour drive back to the Sunshine Coast. After chatting about the event, the key presenters and their content, Bankers, trade tables and the number of goodies we managed to secure, our conversation turned to one of observations, observations we had each made individually.

Our collective observations centered around how the ladies at the conference. With a 25% average Industry representation in a room at any given time, a woman’s voice, her opinions and more so her professional knowledge can be easily lost amongst the chatter. Thus, an opportunity was identified and by the time we hit Beenleigh, it was fever pitch about how we could pull together a platform where women can be heard  and share their incredible knowledge with others. To create an inclusive environment, one where everyone shares, a safe place for reciprocity to reign supreme.

Brainstorming through what now became a 4-hour cruise, think Gilligan’s Island, and thanks to the Gateway (Wait Way) with its ever present accident, Collective Connection evolved, erupting into being.

In January 2017, we put our idea to the test inviting 10 women from the Broking Industry to a working lunch. The topics we covered were all about testing our concept to see if it had legs! Unanimously, a thumb’s up was given.

Collective Connection was given a purpose, to work with women in the finance industry, to foster open sharing of knowledge, to create opportunity and connections and to promote actions for growth, thus defining our mission.
