One issue with trail shoes involves debris becoming trapped in the grooves. The spacing in these designs tend to be wider than standard walking shoes. Various objects from pebbles to twigs can accumulate easily, even during brief runs on packed surfaces or pavement. In mountainous areas, avoiding such debris proves difficult without using designated tracks.
Make sure you're wearing the proper size footwear. A size 7 might feel comfortable, but a shoe store clerk might determine you're actually a size 5. Wearing larger or smaller shoes than your true size causes excessive wear as your feet slide around, requiring constant adjustment. Many stores offer complimentary foot measurements. After years of wearing size 8, I discovered my proper fit was 6½ wide - now my footwear last significantly longer.
