MelbKink.Ed was born in 2023 as a self-funded passion project with one clear goal: to make Melbourne’s kink community safer, more inclusive, and more connected through education. What began as a small idea quickly grew into a collective run by a team of neurodiverse kinksters from varied backgrounds, united by a love of community and a belief that everyone deserves access to safe, affirming spaces to explore kink.

From the very beginning, safety and education have been at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s teaching negotiation skills, running classes on hands-on techniques, or creating spaces where people can explore under guidance, our mission is to empower people with knowledge. For us, kink isn’t just about play it’s about building skills, confidence, and trust so that our community can thrive.

At the helm of MelbKink.Ed is our founder, Kitty Katastrophy, Australian Handler 2025, a queer woman of colour. Known affectionately as “Mommy Playpen,” Kitty has made sure that inclusivity is not just something we talk about but something we actively practise every day. With more than 15 years of lived experience in the kink community, she brings a depth of knowledge, resilience, and care that shapes the heart of our collective. Kitty’s leadership has set the tone for MelbKink.Ed firm but nurturing, uncompromising in safety, and always centring those whose voices too often go unheard. Alongside her work within the collective, Kitty is deeply involved across the wider Melbourne scene, cross-training dungeon monitors from other events, frequently DM’ing at major parties, and liaising with organisers to uphold best practices in safety and consent. Her presence extends well beyond our own events, helping to raise standards across the entire community.

But MelbKink.Ed is more than just classes and parties it’s a community effort rooted in care. We know too well that trans people, disabled people, and BIPOC often face barriers in kink spaces. That’s why we’ve built ongoing concessions into our events, prioritise marginalised facilitators, and donate directly to trans folk and charities supporting LGBTQIA+ communities. Accessibility and representation aren’t afterthoughts for us they’re at the centre of who we are.

In just a short time, we’ve produced a wide range of events that offer something for everyone. Playpen provides a playful, hands-on way for newcomers and curious kinksters to try different practices in a safe, guided environment. Asphodel blends intimacy, creativity, and atmosphere, creating immersive themed gatherings that celebrate the artistry of kink. Tartarus has become a playground for the bold and seasoned kinksters to let loose, showcasing the diversity and depth of Melbourne kink while still holding firmly to our commitment to safety and consent. Alongside these larger productions, our Kink.Ed munches provide a low-pressure, welcoming space where people can connect, ask questions, and find their place in the community.

Each of these events is designed with intention: to create spaces that are safe, supportive, and exciting for kinksters at every stage of their journey. The impact has been clear. Attendees tell us our events are not only fun and informative but also some of the most inclusive and affirming spaces they’ve ever experienced. By putting representation, consent, and accessibility first, we’ve raised the bar for what kink events in Melbourne can and should look like.

We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we’re even more excited about what’s ahead. Our vision is to continue expanding our educational offerings, platform more diverse voices, and strengthen our reputation as a safe, welcoming hub for kink education in Victoria.
