Thanks to funding from Ageing Disability and Home Care (ADHC), your team have the opportunity to participate in the Hanen Teacher Talk training. An evidence-based approach to promoting children’s language, literacy and social skills in early childhood education settings.

Play and daily routines provide opportunities to create enriched, interactive language-learning environments that include all children. This training will discuss how to foster language development through daily interactions.
A series of three (3) workshops
Over three workshops you will learn how to:
Encouraging Language Development in Early Childhood Settings (Workshop 1 – this is a prerequisite to the other 2 workshops)
•identify the children’s conversational styles and the roles teachers play
•let the child lead in individual and group interactions
•help children become better conversational partners
Encourage interaction in group situations
Let Language Lead the Way to Literacy (Workshop 2)
Develop positive attitudes towards the use of print
Make book reading a time for interaction and conversation
Adjust your language during book reading to match the children’s stage of language development
Encourage higher level abstract thinking during book reading
Increase print awareness
Fostering Peer Interactions in Early Childhood Settings (Workshop 3)
Make the best use of space in the classroom
Encourage a variety of groupings for interaction
Provide materials and activities that promote peer interaction
Support children’s interactions with peers.
