Team Empowerment

This event was spearheaded by participants of the John Curtin Leadership Academy who shared a common value: Empowering those in need. We felt that the work of Wheelchairs For Kids (WFK) was incredibly valuable and we sought to raise community awareness and support. This event is our way of achieving this aspiration. Our Mission Statement is:

“To raise funds and awareness for Wheelchairs For Kids (WFK), to enable them to empower disadvantaged children with disabilities. We will achieve this by holding a fun community event that showcases the achievements of people with opportunity.”

The event will take place on 22 April 2012 at Lake Monger. It is a ‘Wheel-A-Thon’ for people in wheelchairs, their friends, family and anyone who wishes to support this great cause. The event will start at approximately 9am and conclude in the early afternoon. In addition, there will be 8 wheelchairs available for corporate groups to wheel each other around the lake $100 a team. This opportunity is a chance to, “experience life in someone else’s shoes wheelchair.”

Relevant disabled organizations and groups within the community have been invited to set up stalls at the finishing venue to help raise awareness of the range of activities people with a disability can be involved with. Entertainment in the form of live music, face painting and a BBQ will also be available.

Our supporters include Wheelchairs for Kids and the Rotary Club of Melville.
