Sun Weekly Ladies Day & Myer Wyong Gold Cup Race Day

The rich two day Wyong spring carnival on Thursday September 4 and September 5 has been revamped with more than $400,000 in prize money being offered on cup day.

Cup day will now boast four feature races, the Listed $150,000 Myer Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) supported by the $70,000 Eagles Plumbing Plus Classic (1350m) for fillies and mares.

Prize money on that race has been increased by $10,000 and the race moved from the first day to cup day.

The other two supporting races are the $40,000 Altona Electrics Springtime Stakes (1200m) and the $40,000 Sportsman Magic Mile (1600m).

Traditionally the cup had been run on a Thursday with the first day, Ladies Day being on the Wednesday.

Last year that was changed to Thursday (Ladies Day) and Friday (Cup Day) to accommodate the APEC summit in Sydney but the meeting never eventuated because of EI.

However the response to the change was so positive that the club has decided that Thursday-Friday will remain a permanent fixture.

Feature of this years two day Cup carnival is the Myer Fashions on the Field. This very popular event has divisions both ladies and gentlemen. Prizes worth thousands of dollars are on offer. Entry in the Myer Fashions on the Field can be made at the Myer ïtouch up marquee on-course. Entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon by the sensational up and coming local band No Pressure. This group of talented young musician is destined for great heights and are looking forward to performing in front of their home crowd.

Gates open at 10am on both days with the first race to commence around 12.30pm.

On-course car parking though limited is free. The Wyong Rail Station and bus interchange are approximately 300 metres from the racecourse.
